FLORENCE, Ala. - The 51Æ·²è Department of Communications is responding to a communications challenge hampering the Phil Campbell tornado recovery efforts. With no electrical power and almost non-existent cell-phone coverage in the Phil Campbell area, communication between volunteers and residents is a problem. Beginning today, a live remote broadcast is airing 24-7 on AM 1500 to enable residents and volunteers to know what is going on and how to help. Between now and Friday, 51Æ·²è Department of Communications is collecting AM/FM radios and batteries to donate to the effort. AA batteries and new or used, battery- or solar-powered radios may be donated to the communications department, located in the Communications Department on N. Pine Street, across from Kilby Laboratory School on 51Æ·²è campus. Financial donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase new radios for the effort. For more information, contact 51Æ·²è Department of Communications at 256-765-4247.About The 51Æ·²è
